Installing NetWare Application Launcher v1.1

This page shows the install process for version 1.1 of the Novell Application Launcher. This version supposedly requires NetWare 4.11 but I expect it probably works fine on 4.2 and 4.10 (as long as you've installed all the updates).

I'm doing this all on NT Workstation 4.0 using version 4.11a of the NetWare client.

Installing

The install program is setupnal.exe.

Its a proper InstallSheild thing, not a self-extracting EXE, so you can just run it from a temporary location.

Click Yes.

Click Yes again.

See! InstallShield thing.

Next

You're supposed to install this into SYS:\PUBLIC. For me it things Z: is mapped to SYS:\ which it is not

My SYS volume is mapped to G drive.

Please wait...

Yes, overwrite the old NAL stuff

Its probably going to ask this a bunch of times so I just ticked the box and clicked Yes.

Copying files...

More installing

I doubt rebooting is require but I'll let it do it anyway.

Workstation has finished rebooting. The installer puts _isreg16.dll in SYS:\PUBLIC. The readme file says this file is not used for anything and can be deleted (its probably just some InstallShield trash).

So I deleted it. SYS:\PUBLIC is enough of a mess as it is - don't need to add to it.

nal.exe and nalw31.exe are updated and nalwin32.exe is new. Nalw95 doesn't look like it was updated but when run on a Windows 95 box it shows as v1.1.

NAL 1.1 on Windows NT! This is new.

It works!

With v1.1 there are some changes to how Application objects are created. It also requires NetWare Administrator v4.11.
