NetWare 3.11

Patches and notes about Netware 3.11. Not much here as I've not played with NetWare 3.11 yet.

New features in v3.11 (vs v3.1)

• The Remote Console feature has been expanded to include a module enabling asynchronous connection to a file server. You can now establish a file server console using a workstation that is not directly connected to your network. You can also use the new RSETUP feature to install and upgrade NEtWare on a servers from a remote console.
• NetWare 386 v3.11 supports the OS/2 High-Performance File System. Files can now have longer names than the DOS limitations and can have extended attributes attached
• The new NetWare TCP/IP transport is a group of loadable modules providing NetWare 386 with TCP/IP transport protocol, APIs, and tools for managing those protocols. TCP/IP packets can be transported from one LAN to another, UNIX clients can use NetWare resources, and NetWare servers can encapsulate and transport IPX packets across a TCP/IP internetwork.
• A server-based data backup product is also included in this version. Using a tape device attached to a file server, a network administrator can use the SBACKUP product to back up data from and restore data to any NetWare v3.11 file server on a network
• The INSTALL loadable module has been improved. You now have the option of not loading certain diskettes if you do not want the program (Btrieve, for example) on your file server. Also, SYSTEM and PUBLIC files can now be copied from a network drive as welll as a floppy drive. The new "Product Options" feature allows you to load additional modules or tools from within the INSTALL program.

Minimum Patches

These are the minimum patches Novell recommends applying as a baseline (as of 1 August 1999). Its probably best to apply them in order starting with the oldest.

Additional Patches

These were the other patches up on the Novell support site on 13 November 2006. You may wish to browse the readme files to see if there are any worth applying. Some of the later ones certainly will be more recent than whats on the minimum patch list above.
